The 2007 T3511 aluminum alloy belongs to the 2xxx series aluminum alloys and is particularly known for its excellent machinability. The main alloying element in this alloy is copper, which provides high mechanical strength. The T3511 temper indicates that the material has been solution heat treated, stress relieved, and then straightened under controlled conditions. This temper condition ensures dimensional stability, especially in applications requiring tight tolerances.

One of the most distinctive properties of this alloy is its very good machinability. It performs particularly well in automatic lathe and CNC machining applications, enabling efficient production. In this regard, it shows similar machinability characteristics to the 2011 alloy. Compared with high-strength alloys such as 7075 or 2024, it is generally easier to machine and well suited for mass production. Therefore, it is widely used in precision machined components and fastening elements.

In terms of mechanical strength, the 2007 T3511 alloy offers moderate to high strength. It provides significantly higher strength than alloys in the 1xxx or 3xxx series. However, in some cases it may have lower strength than alloys such as 7075-T6. Nevertheless, its excellent machinability gives it a clear advantage in high-volume manufacturing applications.

The corrosion resistance of this alloy is lower than that of pure aluminum alloys because the copper content may reduce corrosion resistance. For this reason, surface treatments or coatings are often applied in certain applications. In addition, its stable behavior under vibration and good dimensional stability provide important advantages in precision engineering applications.

In terms of weldability, the 2007 alloy shows limited performance, and mechanical fastening methods are generally preferred instead of welding. Despite this, it is widely used in automotive components, aerospace parts, precision machined components, fasteners, and industrial equipment manufacturing. Overall, the 2007 T3511 alloy exhibits machinability similar to alloys such as 2011, while offering better machinability but slightly lower strength compared with alloys such as 2024 and 7075.
