6351 T6 aluminum alloy belongs to the Al-Mg-Si based 6000 series and is developed for applications requiring high strength and good extrusion capability. This alloy is widely used especially in pipe and profile production. The T6 temper refers to solution heat treatment and artificial aging, which provides high strength and hardness. Compared to 6063, it offers higher strength, while providing better extrusion capability than 6082.
In terms of corrosion resistance, 6351 T6 provides good performance and reliable use in atmospheric environments. Due to its magnesium and silicon content, a protective oxide layer forms on the surface. It has corrosion resistance similar to 6061 but is significantly superior to 2024 alloy. It can be used in marine environments, although it does not offer as high corrosion resistance as 5083.
Regarding strength and mechanical properties, 6351 T6 has a medium-to-high strength level. It offers values close to 6061-T6 but is generally slightly lower. Compared to 6082-T651, it has lower strength but better formability and extrusion performance. When compared to 7075-T6, its strength is significantly lower. However, it provides sufficient strength for pipe and profile applications.
In terms of machinability, bendability, and weldability, 6351 T6 offers a balanced performance. Its machinability is adequate but not as high as free-machining alloys like 6262. Its weldability is good and it can be easily joined using MIG and TIG welding methods. Its bending capability is limited in the T6 temper, so forming operations are usually carried out in softer tempers. Compared to 6063, it is harder to form, but it offers better extrusion performance than 6082.
Regarding coating ability, vibration behavior, and applications, 6351 alloy is suitable for anodizing and surface coating processes, although its decorative anodizing quality is not as high as 6063. Its vibration damping capacity is moderate. Main application areas include gas and fluid transport pipes, pressure cylinders, automotive components, structural profiles, and various engineering applications. 6351 T6 provides a balanced solution between strength and manufacturability, especially in extrusion products.
