6063 T651 aluminum alloy is a medium-strength alloy developed especially for extrusion applications, offering high surface quality. The T651 temper indicates that it has been solution heat-treated, stress-relieved, and artificially aged. This provides dimensional stability and balanced mechanical properties. It is a highly suitable material for architectural applications and precision profile production.
One of the most important features of this alloy is its high corrosion resistance. It performs very well under atmospheric conditions, making it widely preferred in exterior applications. Additionally, it has excellent coating capability (anodizing and painting); thanks to its smooth surface structure, it stands out in aesthetic applications. Compared to 6061 alloy, it offers better surface quality, while it has lower strength than 6082 alloy.
In terms of strength, 6063 T651 provides moderate strength and is used in decorative and light load-bearing systems rather than high-strength structural applications. For example, 2024 alloy offers much higher strength but lower corrosion resistance. 5052 alloy, on the other hand, has better corrosion resistance but does not offer the same advantages as 6063 in terms of extrusion capability and surface finish.
In terms of machinability and bending properties, 6063 alloy is highly advantageous. Its soft structure allows easy forming and the production of complex profiles. This is especially beneficial for window systems and decorative architectural elements. Additionally, its weldability is very good; it can be easily joined using TIG and MIG welding methods.
Regarding vibration behavior, 6063 alloy performs well in absorbing vibrations due to its high damping capacity. This provides advantages in automotive, rail systems, and construction sectors. Overall, 6063 T651 is widely used in architectural, automotive, furniture, and industrial profile production thanks to its combination of aesthetic appearance, good corrosion resistance, adequate strength, and high workability.
