The 7022 T651 aluminum alloy belongs to the Al-Zn-Mg 7000 series and has been developed for engineering applications requiring high mechanical strength. This alloy stands out by offering better weldability and more balanced corrosion behavior compared to classic high-strength alloys like 7075. The 7022 alloy is preferred in defense, machinery manufacturing, mold making, and heavy-duty structural components. Its high yield and tensile strength allow it to provide high load-carrying capacity even in relatively thin sections.
The T651 temper indicates that the alloy has undergone solution treatment and artificial aging followed by controlled stress relief (stretching). This process gives 7022-T651 excellent dimensional stability, minimizing distortion during machining. The alloy offers a good balance of toughness and strength and provides reliable performance in applications where fatigue resistance is important. For designs requiring a balance between high strength and manufacturability, 7022-T651 is a technically strong material choice.
