7075-T73 aluminum alloy is a high-strength alloy from the 7xxx series, and the T73 temper is a special aging condition developed specifically to improve resistance to stress corrosion cracking (SCC). This temper is achieved by applying overaging after solution heat treatment. As a result, while the strength is slightly reduced compared to the T6 condition, the durability and service reliability of the material are significantly improved.

In terms of corrosion resistance, 7075-T73 performs much better than 7075-T6. It is especially preferred in critical applications requiring resistance to stress corrosion cracking. However, it is still not as corrosion-resistant as naturally resistant alloys such as the 5xxx series (e.g., 5083). Therefore, it is often supported with anodizing or protective coatings.

Regarding strength and mechanical properties, 7075-T73 still offers high strength but has lower yield and tensile strength compared to the T6 temper. Nevertheless, it still provides higher strength levels compared to alloys such as 6061-T6 and 2024-T3. Its main advantage lies in the optimized balance between strength and corrosion resistance.

In terms of machinability, bending, and weldability, 7075-T73 offers good machinability and slightly better formability than T6 due to reduced brittleness. However, like other 7xxx series alloys, its weldability is poor, and in this regard, 6061 is much more advantageous. Bending operations must be carried out carefully due to the continued risk of cracking caused by its high strength.

Regarding vibration behavior and applications, 7075-T73 is widely used in aerospace, defense, and high-safety structural applications. It is ideal for aircraft landing gear components, structural fittings, and parts subjected to high stress. While 7075-T6 provides higher strength, 7075-T73 is preferred as a safer and more durable alternative. While 2024 stands out for fatigue performance, 7075-T73 offers advantages in corrosion resistance for critical applications.
