The 7475 T7651 aluminum alloy belongs to the high-strength 7xxx series Al-Zn-Mg-Cu alloy family and is an advanced engineering material widely used in the aerospace and defense industries. Although its chemical composition is similar to that of the 7075 alloy, stricter purity control provides higher fracture toughness and improved crack propagation resistance. The T7651 temper indicates that the alloy has undergone stress relief and overaging treatments to enhance resistance to stress corrosion cracking. Because of these properties, it is commonly used in aircraft wing panels, fuselage plates, high-performance structural components, and other critical engineering applications.

One of the most important characteristics of the 7475 T7651 alloy is its high mechanical strength. With a typical tensile strength approaching 500 MPa and high yield strength, it can be used in load-bearing structures subjected to heavy stresses. In terms of strength, it is stronger than the 2024-T351 alloy and significantly stronger than the 6061-T6 alloy. While its strength level is comparable to 7075-T651, the 7475 alloy offers higher fracture toughness and better damage tolerance, which makes it advantageous for aerospace structural applications.

In terms of corrosion resistance, 7475 T7651 is one of the improved variants of the 7xxx series. The T7651 temper significantly enhances resistance to stress corrosion cracking. However, its general atmospheric corrosion resistance is not as high as that of the 6061 alloy, so anodizing or protective coating processes are often applied in many applications. When the surface is properly prepared, the alloy is well suited for painting, coating, and other protective surface treatments.

Regarding machinability and formability, the 7475 T7651 alloy offers a well-balanced set of properties. Despite its high strength, it provides good machining performance and can be used in parts requiring tight dimensional tolerances. However, its bending and cold forming capability is more limited than alloys such as 6061 or 5052. For this reason, complex forming operations are usually carried out after solution treatment or in lower-strength temper conditions. Its weldability is limited, as with most 7xxx series alloys, and mechanical fastening methods are generally preferred instead of welding.

From the perspective of vibration behavior and structural performance, the 7475 T7651 alloy is highly advantageous. Due to the combination of high elastic modulus and strength, it exhibits excellent fatigue resistance and performance under vibration. This property is particularly important in aerospace, space applications, high-performance sports equipment, and defense industry components. Compared with 7075 it offers similar strength but better damage tolerance, compared with 2024 it provides higher strength, and compared with 6061 it delivers significantly superior structural performance, making it a preferred alloy for critical engineering applications.
