5005 H34 aluminum alloy belongs to the 5000 series aluminum-magnesium alloys and is particularly known for its high corrosion resistance. This alloy typically contains 0.5–1.1% magnesium, with very low amounts of copper and other alloying elements; the remainder is predominantly pure aluminum. The H34 temper indicates that the alloy is cold-worked to a semi-hard condition, balancing high strength with adequate ductility. These characteristics make 5005 H34 an ideal material for marine and outdoor applications.
In terms of mechanical properties, 5005 H34 has moderately high strength. Its yield strength is approximately 145–190 MPa, and its tensile strength ranges from 210–255 MPa. Elongation at break is around 6–12%, indicating sufficient ductility and resistance to cracking under impact or bending. These properties allow 5005 H34 to be safely used in both structural and decorative components.
Regarding machinability, 5005 H34 performs reasonably well. The alloy’s ductile nature facilitates cutting, drilling, bending, and forming operations. However, some high-hardness processes may require special tooling or slower machining speeds. Its weldability is excellent; high-quality joints can be achieved using MIG and TIG welding methods, providing flexibility for assembling construction parts.
In terms of corrosion resistance, 5005 H34 is highly effective. Thanks to the magnesium content, it is particularly resistant to marine and humid environments. The alloy is strong against atmospheric corrosion and provides long-lasting performance even without paint. Therefore, it is widely used in anodized parts, traffic signs, architectural applications, marine vessels, outdoor profiles, and vehicle body panels.
