5454 O aluminum alloy is a magnesium (Mg) containing alloy belonging to the 5xxx series in a fully annealed temper condition. This alloy stands out with its maximum formability, high ductility, and good corrosion resistance. Due to its annealed structure, it is very soft and allows the formation of complex shapes. It shows good resistance to seawater, industrial atmospheres, and mild chemical environments. It is among the few 5xxx series alloys suitable for elevated temperature applications.

In terms of strength, 5454 O provides the lowest strength compared to the H22 and H32 tempers of the same alloy. However, this provides advantages in forming. Compared to 5052 O alloy, it offers similar ductility and corrosion resistance but has advantages in high-temperature performance. When compared to 5083 alloy, it provides lower strength but significantly better formability. Compared to 6061-T6 alloy, it offers much lower strength but significantly better corrosion resistance and formability.

In terms of machinability, 5454 O alloy is moderate; it is not suitable for machining but can be easily processed in sheet and plate form. Its bending capability is excellent and it can be formed with very low risk of cracking. This temper is ideal especially for deep drawing, pressing, and complex forming operations. It provides the highest performance in cold forming processes.

In terms of coating capability, 5454 O performs well and is suitable for surface treatments such as painting and anodizing. It is also preferred in decorative applications due to its high surface quality. In terms of vibration response, it offers excellent damping capacity due to its high ductility, making it advantageous in vibration environments.

Its weldability is very high and it can be welded easily using methods such as MIG and TIG. Its performance after welding remains stable. The 5454 O alloy is widely used in applications such as pressure vessels, chemical tanks, high-temperature equipment, transport tanks, and forming-intensive industrial applications. It stands out especially in applications requiring maximum formability, high-temperature resistance, and corrosion resistance.
